Another couple weeks and we will host the "HanseSail 08" here in Rostock. That will be our easy chance to spot lots of Tall-Ships and with some luck there is enough wind to catch them sailing. We will prepare another special dedicated to this event in our Fleettracking sektion.

Also, wer hat in Kiel die tollen Segler fotogorafiert, würde mich freuen ein paar Bilder der Kieler Woche zu sehen :)  Harry?

I'm sorry about shutting off the region-views that way for almost 6 hours.

Everything is i.O. again.

Over the last half year we made good advances in extending the views on vessels by cooperating with community-members. We setup a page today explaning the settings for ShipPlotter with a video. We will extend this section over the next days heavily. Give us a ring, if you are also willing to share with the community.

We developed an extended ImageManager , which makes it possible to manage all of Your images  and upload multiple images quickly for later adjustments on the server. Searching for vessels inside the tool is very fast, so give it a try and some comments to us!
We hope this will make your work much easier.

OK everybody, You asked for it, you'll get it. we just released the first version of our new image management tool, here on Digital-Seas.

Get a qick view on all of your images, search for vessels "mega-fast" and during the mass upload of new images. - select all your new images, then assign vessel from the database to them and finally send everything with one click to the server :)

We will extend many features in the next release, like Help, more descriptions etc. please let us know about your experiences.
Log in and  --> TRY IT HERE

Listening to user-comments over the last months, we decided to extend the ways to upload images to DS.

In our works right now is an uploader, which gives you more convinience when editing your images. Starting features are:

- stored profiles for users, so the can
- prepare tag, name, research IMOs without a website
- when ready upload multiple images with one click to multiple spotting sites

Since there is soon a long free weekend in Germany, we are optimistic to present results the week after Pentecost :)

Mobile Tracking with Your Phone

By: MindOpen

We are very excited about our new piece of software for mobile Phones called MobTrack.

It could well support us shipspotters by tracking locations and store positions right into our images.

Putting it on your mobile will give you the opportunity to show your live movements on a web-Page. And when I say live, I mean real-live (ok 3 sec delay between sending and showing). We set up a page to demonstrate the functionality and to download the software for JAVA phones.
Free for all, the DS principle.
For the time of Beta-Testing I will also show my tracks to everyone, after that phase, we will introduce buddylists.
See and try it:   www.digital-seas.com/mob

My last weekend in the Port of Rotterdam has not produced any image of that kind, grey sky made up quiet some trouble for the Fuji S3pro, almost not usable, so I will only upload images needed for reference.

All Sharers were very busy over the last weeks, so we reached over 5000 unique vessel-images so far. All original formats are available now (Gallery View), which makes using DS as a backup location much easier :)

With our own AIS station right in the middle of Hamburg it is now possible for us to release the vessel traffic of this important German Port to the Public. Lot of ship-traffic to watch, use our viewer Fleetmon to get a real live impression.
No delays inside , pure joy, 24/7/365.

We did really liked this day a lot, thanks Akira ! Try here: Port of Hamburg

We wanted to say thanks for the intensive work of uploading and supporting this place!

We would also recommend to take a look at the wonderful collection of Tallship images Volker Gries uploaded over the last month. We wondered, how many tallships are allready equipped with AIS devices. Thanks again.

Thanks to Lars Schmidt from Denmark, Oleg Kovalyov from Canada and John Astad from the US.
We're just preparing a section on the site to explain the process (it's easy :)

We are looking forward very much to read Your statements, wishes and arguments.
We decided not to open another forum or newsgroup here on Digital-Seas. There are many good places to talk about ships and traffic, for instance shipspotting.com  or forum-schiff.de here in Germany. Instead we will use our blogging section (TrackBlog) to get in touch and discuss.

Topics could be:

  • What do you think about our Fleetmon application and this ship archive?
  • Which features do you like best and are there any you are missing in our application?

Your Feedback will be greatly appreciated.
Especially detailed comments help us to continuously improve this free website.

It was quiet an astonishing Year for us with the opening of Digital-Seas in July. We've made lots of contacts, had many good reports and of course also lot's of problems around technic and content. Almost 2000 registered users in a couple months, changing twice the servers because of the load and setting up a dozen antennas ourselfs made us busy beside the regular job workload.

Making this a free resource feels good and we would like to thank for all comments and help with the portal. Especially the sharers and the image supporters should be named, but also every user, who is spreading the word. 2008 will bring many extensions and hopefully also much more coverage of AIS positions!
