All about DynDNS if you want to start Peer-to-Peer Sharing.
To help you with the steps of creating an DynDNs account to simulate a static IP, we assembled some steps to setup a so called DynDNS entry.
This will overcome the limitations of a missing static IP, you could use the dyndns name instead although. We are ready to work with Ips or such entries, so a stream is always possible.
Below is the process to apply a free DDNS account from the DynDNS..And you can use the User Name, Password, and host name to configure the DDNS feature on your Router or Update-Client (whatever you would like to use on the local site).
- Step 1: Visit www.dyndns.org. Click Create Account
- Step 2: Complete the form to create your free account.
- Step 3: After you created, an confirmation mail will be sent to your e-mail address.
- Step 4: You will receive it in your mail box and click the URL to confirm.
- Step 5: Account Confirmed
- Step 6: Log in the the DynDNS by using the Username & Password you registered.
- Step 7: Logged In
- Step 8: Enter Service> Dynamic DNS
- Step 9: Click Get Started to create a host
- Step 10: Follow the example, select a free host name for yourself.
- Step 11: A new host is created.
- Step 12: Log in to your Router or install the Update-Software from Dyndns on your computer
- Step 13: Go to Network Settings> DDNS Service
- Step 14: Input: User Name, Password, and Host Name. Then Click Apply button.
After you finished this steps, you may check if it works.
(If your PC and Router are located behind the same NAT router)
You can check your current WAN address:http://www.ip-lookup.net/
In most of the cases, it is useful for you to know your public IP address when you are behind a NAT router. Use ping command to check your registered address of dynamic DNS:
Start menu --> Run --> cmdping xxx.dyndns.org
If you have set up the DDNS on your router correctly, you will see the DDNS service provider feedback the same IP with your WAN IP address.
Remember your DynDNS name to tell other people :-)
