Das Schiff wurde 1919 in Dänemark als Gaffelschoner "Edith" gebaut. Es erlebte die Namenswechsel in "Frederick Fischer" 1922 und "Gertrud II" 1934, bevor es 1991-1992 in Wolgast generalüberholt und als Dreimast-Großsegelschoner "Fridtjof Nansen" getauft wurde.
